"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." -Dr. Seuss
Welcome to i get it!, a blog devoted to exploring interactive technology as a learning tool to help support individual learning differences. i get it! looks at some of categories of and specific web 2.0 tools that can help students develop their abilities to discover, contrast, understand and evaluate information. It will also help make explicit the analytical thinking processes of young learners. The "old school" methods of learning have provided opportunities to develop higher-level skills such as to review, reflect, and analyze information. However, the interactive web tools available today are especially learner-centered and developed to support individual learning needs.
To be effective when choosing which web 2.0 tools to use, we must consider the varying needs of users with varying levels of proficiency in digital technologies. To meet the needs of every possible student, a technology must be intuitive, efficient to use and easy to learn. To achieve this, designs should model technologies currently in use by classroom teachers, as well as consider the structure and focus of current teaching practices.
This learning is not innovative only because it incorporates web 2.0, it is also particularly innovative because of the efficiency in which learners can independently and collaborately access support for a broad range of learning experiences.
Learning success remains to be measured by set goals based on Bloom’s Taxonomy. Web 2.0 tools are simply seen as providing an interactive structure that shapes the approach as well as the fundamental design of learning. The primary focus of i get it! is to identify and address the specific experiences of learners.
Helping each student to grow their potential, find their voice, and feel encouraged is the challenge of the web 2.0 classroom. The goal is to launch each student off the ground to greater heights and wider perspectives.
In the spirit of Web 2.0, i get it! strives to cultivate, incubate, and grow existing and future opportunities for educators to share and expand on lessons and experiences, and to create space for conversation and self-determination in education for educators, students, parents, and all who care about teaching and learning.
Helping each student to grow their potential, find their voice, and feel encouraged is the challenge of the web 2.0 classroom. The goal is to launch each student off the ground to greater heights and wider perspectives.
